According to a report from 90 Min, West Ham are one of five English clubs chasing Paris Saint-Germain centre-back Thiago Silva. The Hammers could face competition from the likes of Newcastle, Arsenal and Everton for the Brazilian’s signature, however.

David Moyes will undoubtedly be looking to bolster his central defensive department this summer.

Angelo Ogbonna has just turned 32, whilst Winston Reid and Issa Diop have been linked with moves away from the London Stadium (Football.London).

In addition to that, Fabian Balbuena has been absolutely woeful this season.

Transfer tussle for Silva

And 90 Min claims that West Ham could be set to battle Newcastle, Arsenal and Everton for PSG ace Thiago Silva.

Let’s be honest here, however. Surely the 88-capped Brazil international is out of the Hammers’ reach.

For a start, the 35-year-old currently earns a whopping £300,000 per week at the Parc des Princes (Sport Bible).

Sure, Silva will be available on a free transfer. But even if he dropped his wage demands down to £200k-a-week, it would be too much for West Ham.

Truly elite player, despite his advancing years

In 21 Ligue 1 outings, the Brazilian centre-back has averaged 1.3 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 2.5 clearances and 0.7 blockers per game (Who Scored).

He has won an average of 1.5 aerial duals per game during those outings. The 35-year-old has also made an average of 71.2 passes per game with a hugely impressive completion rate of 95.5% (Who Scored).

Silva is one of the most highly decorated centre-backs in world football.

But in truth, West Ham surely do not stand a chance of signing him this summer. Perhaps Arsenal, Newcastle or Everton are in better positions to bring the Brazilian to the Premier League.
