According to a report from Sampdoria News, West Ham are interested in signing Omar Colley this summer and the player himself is keen on moving to London. And that will be a blow for Celtic with Neil Lennon reportedly keen to bring the Gambian defender to Parkhead (Calcio Mercato).
Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needs to bolster his defensive ranks at the London Stadium this summer.
Angelo Ogbonna has been superb recently, but he will be 33 next season. Meanwhile, Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop and Winston Reid all face uncertain futures at West Ham.
And Sampdoria News suggests that Omar Colley could be an option for the Hammers.
The Serie A side are allegedly prepared to sell the 27-year-old for around £13 million (Calcio Mercato).
It seems as though first and foremost, West Ham would have to beat Celtic to Colley’s signature.
But if Moyes can convince the Hammers board to part with £13 million for the towering centre-back, he could be a very useful addition for the east London outfit.
In 31 Serie A appearances for Sampdoria last season, Colley averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.9 interceptions, 4.8 clearances and 0.7 blocks per game. He also won 2.8 aerial duals per game on average during those outings (Who Scored).
With his powerful and imposing physique, Colley seems to be ideally suited to the robust nature of the Premier League.
The 27-year-old would be the ideal partner for Angelo Ogbonna next season.
Let’s just hope that we have the financial muscle to challenge Celtic for the Gambian this summer.
