According to a report from A Bola, West Ham are considering making an offer close to £18 million for Sporting Lisbon winger Jovane Cabral. Fulham are also said to be in the race to sign the fleet-footed attacker.

But this doesn’t make any sense whatsoever.

Firstly, Hammers boss David Moyes should be prioritising adding some defenders to his ranks at the London Stadium.

And secondly, if West Ham were in the market for attackers, they surely would have made more of a play for Queens Park Rangers ace Eberechi Eze.

The 22-year-old ace is apparently on the verge of joining Crystal Palace (Telegraph). And missing out on the youngster will be a real kick in the teeth for Moyes. Especially considering the fact that he’s a player the Scot really wanted (ExWHUemployee).

Nevertheless, A Bola reckon West Ham are considering making an offer for Jovane Cabral – one close to Sporting’s £18 million valuation of thew winger.

The 22-year-old racked up six goals and three assists in 16 Primeira Liga games for Sporting this season (Transfermarkt).

In those 16 outings, the Cape Verde international averaged 2.9 shots, 1.3 key passes and 2.3 dribbles per game (Who Scored).

Cabral clearly has a lot of talent. But considering the current climate, £18 million seems like an awful lot of money for someone who is totally unproven in the Premier League.

And even if we have that kind of money, we really shouldn’t be investing it in a totally unproven commodity.
