West Ham are confident of signing Chelsea centre-back Antonio Rudiger, according to the Mirror, and they believe they have the edge over Tottenham in the race for the Germany international’s signature.

Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needs to strengthen his centre-back options at the London Stadium before the transfer window slams shut.

And the same can be said of Spurs boss Jose Mourinho at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

West Ham want to bring Rudiger to east London on a season-long loan, whilst Tottenham want to complete a permanent deal for the Chelsea ace (Mirror).

And the 27-year-old would be an excellent addition for either the Hammers or Spurs.

Stats

The Blues signed Rudiger from Roma in the summer of 2017 for around £29 million (BBC). He has gone on to make 80 Premier League appearances for Chelsea. In those outings, the 27-year-old has made 93 tackles, 15 blocks, 72 interceptions, 252 clearances and 522 ball recoveries (premierleague.com).

The German is a very solid all-round defender. He has plenty of pace and is a tenacious tackler.

The 27-year-old earns £100k-a-week at Chelsea, according to the Daily Mail.

And we should be able to meet those kind of wage demands.

If West Ham manage to beat Tottenham to Rudiger’s signature, it would be a real coup for us. Even if we do only sign the Chelsea man on a season-long loan deal.
