Telegraph journalist Mike McGrath has claimed on Twitter that West Ham could be set to battle it out with Southampton for Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic.
In other news…Moyes selling 27-y/o and signing exciting West Ham-linked trio would be superb business
Hammers boss David Moyes desperately needs to bolster his ranks at the London Stadium this summer.
And the same can be said of Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl at St Mary’s.
It could be argued that Southampton are more in need of signing a central midfielder than West Ham, however.
If Declan Rice and Tomas Soucek remain fit, West Ham will be just fine. But if either of those players suffer an injury, or god forbid Rice is sold, we will all of a sudden be very weak in the middle of the park.
And Mike McGrath claims that the Hammers could be ready to battle the Saints for Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic:
Grujic joined Liverpool from Red Star Belgrade for around £5.1 million in January of 2016 (BBC).
And German media outlet Kicker now claim that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is willing to let the 24-year-old leave Anfield for around £18 million.
Stats
The Serbia international spent last season on loan with Hertha Berlin.
The defensive midfielder played 29 Bundesliga games and racked up four goals and one assist in the process (Who Scored).
In those outings, Grujic averaged 1.9 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 2.3 clearances and 1.5 dribbles per game. He made 37.6 passes on average per game with a completion rate of 78.7% (Who Scored).
The 24-year-old is a very good player. And he would strengthen West Ham’s midfield options considerably.
Whether will will be able to beat Southampton to the Liverpool ace, however, remains to be seen.
