West Ham boss David Moyes is keen to sign Schalke ace Weston McKennie this summer, according to a report from 90 Min. They allegedly could face competition from the likes of Everton, Aston Villa and Newcastle for the American’s signature, however.

Moyes might just be keen to bolster his central midfield ranks at the London Stadium further still this summer. That’s in spite of already having added Tomas Soucek to his squad on a permanent deal last month.
Carlos Sanchez has left the club, whilst Mark Noble will turn 34 next year. And rumours linking Declan Rice with an exit refuse to go away.
90 Min reckons Moyes want’s to bring Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie to West Ham this summer. But the 57-year-old Scot will have to beat the likes of Everton, Aston Villa and Newcastle to the £20 million-rated 21-year-old.
Our View:
The 19-capped United States international racked up three goals in 28 Bundesliga games for Schalke last season (Transfermarkt).
In those outings, the 21-year-old averaged 36.7 passes per game with an impressive completion rate of 80.95. He also averaged 1.4 tackles, 1.6 interceptions, 1.3 clearances and one dribble per game (Who Scored).
McKennie is a real all-round midfielder. The youngster has everything. The Schalke ace certainly fits the profile of player Moyes wants to sign this summer.
He is very highly rated by one of the game’s biggest stars – Christian Pulisic.
The Chelsea ace described McKennie as a player when speaking to Bundesliga.com:
“Weston’s a really big dominant presence. He’s really good at winning balls. He wins everything. He’s also good with the ball, whereas I’m not as much of a ball winner but more of a creator and dribbler. I think [we’ve] worked really well together.”
He is young, energetic and dynamic.
The American’s £20 million price-tag will obviously be problematic for West Ham, however.
The east London outfit have very little cash to spend this summer.
So unless the likes of Felipe Anderson and Manuel Lanzini are sold, Everton, Aston Villa or Newcastle seem to be in a better position than the Hammers to sign McKennie this summer.
