According to a report from ESPN journalist Diego Cora, LA Galaxy players have told him that former West Ham striker Javier Hernandez rarely mixes with the rest of the squad and thinks that he is a ‘megastar’.

The 32-year-old joined the Hammers from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2017 for around £16 million (BBC).

But Chicharito struggled to establish himself at the London Stadium with just 17 goals in 63 games to his name (Transfermarkt).

The 109-capped Mexico international was swiftly moved on to Sevilla in the summer of 2019 for around £7.2 million (ESPN).

Hernandez struggled in La Liga as well before being sold to LA Galaxy in January of this year for around £7.4 million (The Guardian).

The former West Ham man has scored just one goal in 10 games for the MLS side (Soccerbase), however.

And ESPN journalist Diego Cora has claimed that the ex-Hammer is far from popular at the London Stadium:

“They began to tell me more details about the legend. It’s Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi together, they think. ‘How?’ I said. Come on, he only speaks with a player of the same nationality, I imagine it must be Jonathan dos Santos, he doesn’t talk to the rest, the players look at him from the side and he thinks he’s a mega star. When he was at Leverkusen, I had to cover him once, and many around the club said he was an ‘ego man’. At West Ham they told me something similar and now the same thing. One of his teammates says that he thinks he’s Cristiano Ronaldo.”

Some West Ham fans believe that Hernandez was let go too soon. But their opinions might change after reading ESPN’s report on the Mexican’s attitude.

And it was clear to see during the 32-year-old’s time with the Hammers that he quite simply wasn’t the player he once was.
