Mario Mandzukic has recently turned down a move to West Ham according to a report from Tutto Mercato Web.

The 89-capped Croatia international has been available on a free transfer since terminating his contract with Qatari side Al-Duhail in July.

The Hammers had previously been linked with a move for the 34-year-old (The Mirror). And it seems as though we have made a recent attempt to sign Mandzukic.

Tutto Mercato Web claims that the nine-time league title winner recently rejected the chance to link up with David Moyes at the London Stadium.

Now, Mandzukic clearly doesn’t fit into the category of players David Moyes recently suggested he wants to sign.

At 34, he is well past his best. But the Croatian could have undoubtedly done a job for us until the end of the season.

Especially with Michail Antonio having now been ruled out for at least four weeks (The Guardian).

Mandzukic can play anywhere along the front-line. And there are not many attackers who can match the Croatian’s record. He has scored 230 goals for club and country throughout his career (Transfermarkt).

The former Bayern Munich and Juventus forward has great experience. And he is an incredibly hard worker.

He would have commanded huge wages, however. Mandzukic was after around £230k-a-week according to ESPN.

So those demands undoubtedly played a huge role in the Croatian rejecting a move to West Ham.

Missing out on the 34-year-old is a shame. But we are 100 per cent right not to pay him that kind of money.

And on we move…
