Reece Oxford had a day to forget in the Bundesliga at the weekend to further hamper his chances of breaking back into the West Ham team.
Oxford is currently on loan at FC Augsburg in Germany after Manuel Pellegrini deemed him surplus to requirements at The London Stadium.
It was a frustrating first half of the season for Oxford, who was cast aside despite West Ham’s defensive injury problems.
The 20-year-old moved to Augsburg, where he has since established himself as a starting central defender. But after his latest performance, he could lose his place in the Augsburg team.
Reece Oxford horror show
In the Bundesliga clash between SC Freiburg and Augsburg, Oxford struggled as his team imploded.
Freiburg ran out 5-1 winners and Oxford was at fault for at least one of those goals. And his nightmare afternoon went from bad to worse in injury time.
The England youth international was shown a red card just before the end of the match to rub salt in the wounds for Augsburg.
What does the future hold for Reece Oxford?
This latest performance has further damaged his chances of making the grade at West Ham and changing Manuel Pellegrini’s mind.
Oxford broke into the side as a 16-year-old with a stunning performance against Arsenal but he has failed to kick on from then.
If he continues to struggle in the Bundesliga, it is unlikely that Pellegrini will give him another chance in claret and blue.
