Movie star and West Ham United fan Ray Winstone has lifted the lid on what players think of David Moyes.

Has Leeds boss just showed why Sullivan and Gold snubbed him for the West Ham job?

West Ham have made their best start to a season for five years.

But in truth the Hammers have been in fine form ever since football returned following the first lockdown.

Happy Hammers transformed under Moyes

West Ham can go back up to fifth in the Premier League table at the quarter-way stage with victory over Leeds on Friday night.

Under Moyes West Ham look a strong, organised, solid, energetic and committed outfit.

And they have married that with being dangerous going forward.

It is a stark contrast from previous seasons and a refreshing change for Hammers fans.

Many supporters did not want Moyes back when he replaced Manuel Pellegrini at the turn of the year.

Movie star Winstone reveals what West Ham players told him about Moyes

West Ham fans respected the job Moyes did first time around in keeping the club up. But they saw the Scot as a ‘yes’ man and cheap option for unpopular owners David Sullivan and David Gold.

It is safe to say he has won the majority of his doubters over, though.

Now TV and film star Winstone, a lifelong West Ham fanatic, has revealed on talkSPORT what the club’s players think of Moyes.

“I’ve got to tell you after the first game (2-0 home defeat to Newcastle) I was distraught… I’ve had 63 years of this… I thought I can’t go through another year of this and I had a little moan about it on Instagram and even my daughters told me off for it,” Winstone told talkSPORT.

“(But) Moyesy’s done something very special there. I’ve talked to a couple of the players as well and they love him you know.

More than just winning

“To see players actually walk on that pitch with a smile on their face you know you’ve got half a chance. To me it doesn’t matter if you win.

“If the players are giving 100% because they’re enjoying playing there then that means everything to me. It’s not about going out and winning 1-0.”
