West Ham United fans won’t be surprised to learn their Carabao Cup clash with League Two minnows Newport has been selected for live TV coverage.

Of course many Hammers fans will be grateful of the fact.

With Newport’s 7,850 capacity at Rodney Parade, away tickets will be hard to come by for West Ham’s legion of supporters.

Irons vs Ironsides

The match between the Irons and the Ironsides will be shown live on Sky Sports on Tuesday August 27th (whufc.com).

Of course Sky are rather predictably baying for a West Ham banana skin.

And in that respect West Ham only have themselves to blame.

Gift that keeps on giving

A gift that keeps on giving, last year’s coming in the form of a thrilling 4-3 defeat to Newport’s League Two rivals AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup.

That was chosen for live coverage, as was the league cup clash between the same sides some five months before.

It has been the same story for several years now and is a measure of West Ham’s propensity to slip on said banana skin.

Manuel Pellegrini should be focused on trying to win one of the cups.

Pellegrini must go for the cups

West Ham are one of a clutch of teams for whom seventh is likely to be the very limit of their ambitions in the league.

The Chilean must go all out to end the club’s 40-year wait for a major trophy.

Then West Ham might stop getting selected for TV coverage for all the wrong reasons.

Not that those of us without the required points to get their hands on an away ticket are complaining. Well not yet anyway.
