West Ham starlet Dan Kemp has been training with the first-team. The squad pictures from Thursday’s training session show Kemp in conversation with veteran defender Pablo Zabaleta.
Manuel Pellegrini often allows some of the best youngsters to train with the first-team. This has led to outings for the likes of Grady Diangana, Conor Coventry, Joe Powell, Ben Johnson and Nathan Holland under Pellegrini’s leadership.
Kemp will be hoping to be the next player stepping into the first-team. The left-footed starlet is diminutive in stature but has impressed for Dimitri Halajko’s U23 side. He has now been given a chance to show what he can do among West Ham’s big names.
Kemp operates on the right-wing and he likes to cut inside onto his left foot. This works wonders in youth team football and he already has three goals in the Premier League 2 this season.
The 20-year-old has represented England at youth level and he is considered a top talent for the future. West Ham didn’t send him out on loan so perhaps Pellegrini wants to check on Kemp’s readiness for the first-team.
It can only benefit Kemp to play with some top players. With Andriy Yarmolenko at the top of his game, Kemp can get some advice about being a left-footer on the right flank.
West Ham summer signing Goncalo Cardoso was also spotted in the training session. The Portugal U19 international joined from Boavista and he is yet to make his competitive debut for the Irons.
The 18-year-old has been a regular in the U23 side and he sat on the bench against Oxford United. Pellegrini is keeping his tabs on Cardoso and judging when he is ready to make the leap to the first-team.
