“The fans of West Ham always fill this stadium. If you are, in five games at home, you have one draw in five games and concede three goals each time then you cannot expect to be happy. We must improve and we need to win at home but I don’t feel that the fans are not behind the team. If not, maybe we would play with an empty stadium.”

West Ham fans are not even split anymore. The vast majority want the former Manchester City boss gone.

It is clear to see that he is past his best, and he doesn’t have what it takes to take the Hammers to the next level.

And answers like the one he gave last night will not improve his relationship with the club’s fans at all.
