West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini spoke to reporters today, and provided an injury update on Jack Wilshere, as quoted by Football.London.
The 27-year-old joined the Hammers on a free transfer in the summer of 2018.
He has really struggled with his fitness, however, and has failed to make any kind of impact at the London Stadium, making just 16 appearances for the club.
Wilshere has only made six Premier League appearances for West Ham this season, and hasn’t played since October 19th, after injuring his groin.
And Pellegrini told reporters today that the 34-capped England international is currently in pain and not working with the squad, effectively ruling him out of the Hammers’ next few games, as quoted by Football.London:
“Jack Wilshere continues with some pain in his groin so he is not working with the squad.”
Pellegrini’s comments will be no surprise to West Ham fans.
Many questioned the signing of the former Arsenal man 18 months ago. And they are now being vindicated.
Wilshere has just 18 months remaining on his current deal, and it is hard to see a future for him at the London Stadium.
Football Insider claimed today that several MLS clubs are keen on signing the 27-year-old, so it could only be a matter of time before he leaves the Hammers.
