West Ham defender Pablo Zabaleta has urged his side to be more consistent, whufc.com reports.

The Hammers lost to Brighton on Friday evening, ending a run of four games without a loss.

Although West Ham improved in the second half, Zabaleta still wants to see more consistency from his team-mates.

Inconsistent West Ham

West Ham lost their first four Premier League games of the season and the mood was damp.

But the next four games were much better from the Irons. Using a new 4-3-3 system, the Hammers went to Everton and grabbed a rare win at Goodison Park.

This got the ball rolling and was followed up by a solid 0-0 draw against high-flying Chelsea.

The following Wednesday, West Ham thrashed Macclesfield Town 8-0 with a ruthless cup display.

And they took this confidence into the Manchester United game, beating Jose Mourinho’s men 3-1.

But in typical West Ham fashion, they went to Brighton and lost against the struggling Seagulls.

Zabaleta has called for more consistency as West Ham prepare to take on Tottenham Hotspur after the international break.

The Argentine told the club’s official website: “You need to be consistent as a team. Week in, week out you need to play well enough to pick up points.

“This is the most competitive and demanding league, so you have to be ready to play one game against a team who likes to keep possession, then the next against someone who is more direct.

“Every game is different and you have to be prepared to stop this. Then when we have the ball we need to play like we did in the second half.

“At this moment, all we need to do is learn and improve mentally, to be ready to play in the way we did for the second half for the 90 minutes.”

Can West Ham beat Spurs?

West Ham will be up for this game after the international break. Manuel Pellegrini will have the next two weeks to prepare his side for this rival game.

Consistency is the key and West Ham need to take inspiration from their performances against Chelsea and Manchester United.

Against a talented Spurs side, West Ham’s compact midfield trio will hope to nullify their threat. Moreover, Fabian Balbuena and Issa Diop will be hoping to give Harry Kane a tough game.

If West Ham play to their ability, they can hurt Tottenham on the counter-attack and claim a win.
