Spanish star Pablo Fornals has revealed the emotions and thought process behind his big move to West Ham United.
Fornals became West Ham’s second most expensive signing ever when he joined for a reported £24million last month (whufc.com).
He remains West Ham’s only major arrival of the summer so far.
The Hammers have put all their energy since into trying to agree a deal for striker Maxi Gomez.
West Ham’s European champion
Fornals arrives at West Ham as a European Under 21 champion after helping Spain lift the prestigious trophy in Italy over the summer.
His performances during the tournament have excited Hammers fans a great deal.
And the 23-year-old has spoken of his own excitement about his new adventure with West Ham, even if he is sad about leaving Spain and somewhat sceptical over the tactical quality of English football.
“I am leaving Villarreal to start a new era, but I think that it is only right after my time at the club to give a proper farewell,” Fornals told the Spanish press, as reported by Football Espana.
‘Sad but excited’
“On one hand I am sad. But on the other I am excited to start a new adventure and to continue learning far away from home.
“I will start a new era were the physical element is maybe more important than the tactics but for my career it will be very important to gain this experience.”
It shows the outstanding maturity Fornals possesses that he recognises the physical aspect of his game must improve if he is to become a truly world class player.
Mature Fornals could become world star
He already has the skills, footballing brain, passing range and ability.
If Fornals can marry that with a touch extra power West Ham are in for a treat.
And he would be well on his way to a long senior international career with Spain as a result.
Fornals got his first look around the London Stadium this week.
He will join up with his new teammates next week.
And then West Ham head to the Far East for the Premier League Asia Trophy.
