West Ham United have a long and illustrious list of celebrity fans and can now count an Oscar winner among the Hammers faithful.
England rugby boss Eddie Jones revealed his allegiance to the famous East End club a couple of years ago (whufc.com).
The list of celebrity West Ham supporters includes a WWE superstar, five elite boxers, TV presenters, politicians, countless world famous actors and even Her Majesty The Queen.
Oscar winner joins legion of famous Hammers
Now the woman who won an Oscar for her portrayal of the Queen, Dame Helen Mirren, has told the world she’s West Ham through and through.
Dame Helen appeared on the BBC’s The Graham Norton Show on Friday night.
She was joined by comedian and Arsenal fan Jack Whitehall, author, adventurer and documentary-maker Simon Reeve, and drag queen RuPaul.
While on the show Dame Helen – who is half Russian but born in Hammersmith, West London, revealed she is ‘proper West Ham’. And it is all thanks to her mum.
‘I’m proper West Ham’
“I’m half Russian, my mum’s London,” Dame Helen told The Graham Norton Show.
“(She’s from) West Ham actually. So I’m properly West Ham as well!
“My dad did the knowledge as well (as my granddad), so I’m the daughter of two cabbies.”
West Ham fans have been quick to welcome Dame Helen to the fold.
A penny for Dame Helen’s thoughts
It is not known whether she used to stand on the old South Bank at Upton Park or what her thoughts are on the controversial move to the London Stadium.
If Dame Helen is a staunch Hammer she is sure to be concerned by news that star man Lukasz Fabianski is out for at least two months (Sky Sports).
There have also been suggestions she is simply a glory hunter with West Ham flying high in the Premier League.
