According to a report from Sky Sports, West Ham boss David Moyes is prepared to sell Issa Diop this summer, but for nothing less than £45 million. But the east London outfit could be making a big mistake if they do indeed sell the centre-back.

Diop joined the Hammers from Toulouse in the summer of 2018 for around £22 million (BBC).

The towering Frenchman has really impressed in spells. And he clearly has all of the basic ingredients needed to go on and become a truly elite centre-back.

But he does make a lot of simple mistakes. Hid positional awareness is poor at times, as is his decision making.

Selling him this summer would be a strange decision from David Moyes, however. Especially considering the fact that the Hammers need to strengthen their defensive ranks, not weaken them.

The 23-year-old has so much potential. And with the right coaching and guidance, he could go on to become a real legend at the London Stadium.

Diop is the kind of player West Ham should be building their future around. The Frenchman would undoubtedly be a huge hit if he moved to one of the Premier League’s top six sides.

It will be hard for the Hammers to reject an offer in the region of £45 million for Diop considering the current financial climate. But it is vital that the club dig their heels in this summer.

If we are to make genuine progress, we need players like Diop to hang around.

The 23-year-old has the ability to become a real giant in the game. David Moyes just needs to coax it out of him.
