West Ham United ace Declan Rice absolutely raved about his teammate Tomas Soucek, when speaking to talkSPORT yesterday, suggesting that the Czech ace deserves to win the Hammers of the Year award at the end of the season.
The Hammers signed Soucek from Slavia Prague in the summer of 2020 for around £13.5 million (The Guardian).
The 25-year-old really impressed during an initial loan spell at the London Stadium.
And he has already established himself as somewhat of a cult hero at West Ham.
Soucek has really transformed the manner in which West Ham play.
The former Slavia Prague ace is an absolute warrior. He always gives 100 per cent to the cause.
Declan Rice absolutely raves about West Ham team-mate Tomas Soucek
The Czech ace is a monster in the air, is a huge asset defensively and is a real threat in the final third.
Declan Rice made it very clear just how much he respects Soucek, when speaking to talkSPORT yesterday:
“You know what, he is so good. To have him next to you in midfield, you don’t realise how much he actually does. He runs, he is strong, he gets in the box, he’s good in the air and he does everything you want everything a midfielder to do. Teams are probably coming up against Tomas and thinking, ‘Yeah we don’t want a battle with him today’. If you go hard, he will go even harder. Even at Man United when we played in the FA Cup and we came in two days after and he ran 17km. All the lads said, ‘That’s not normal Tom!’ The season he is having, no doubt he is going to be Player of the Year and he absolutely deserves it as he is a great lad as well.”
Soucek has posted some truly incredible numbers since joining West Ham.
In 38 Premier League games for the Hammers, the Czech ace has racked up 11 goals, 14 blocks, 59 interceptions, 105 clearances, 71 headed clearances, 76 tackles and 211 ball recoveries (premierleague.com).
In those matches, Soucek has won 337 duels and 217 aerial battles whilst making zero errors leading to goals for the opposition (premierleague.com).
The giant Czech Republic international is easily worth £50 million now. He has taken to the robust nature of the Premier League like a duck to water.
And we should consider ourselves very lucky to have Soucek at the London Stadium.
