Newcastle star Callum Wilson has trolled West Ham over their transfer recruitment and it shows that David Moyes is out of touch.

When Rob Newman was appointed as West Ham’s head of recruitment at the request of Moyes after leaving Man City, fans believed it would finally see the Hammers compete for top young talent.

Moyes had vowed to build a young, hungry team of players using the Red Bull model.

But that simply has not happened and West Ham have fallen so far that they find themselves in the thick of a relegation battle this season.

The tale of Newcastle United in the last year, by contrast, is almost the polar opposite to West Ham.

Eddie Howe took over a Newcastle team down in 19th – one place worse off from where the Hammers find themselves now.

His clever, careful recruitment has seen Newcastle build a vibrant team full of pace and energy who, after staying up last season, are now mounting a convincing case to qualify for the Champions League.

After spending £235m in the last two summer windows – because old school Moyes does not like doing business in January – West Ham have somehow contrived to assemble what is officially the oldest squad in the Premier League.

They are reliant on spent force Michail Antonio, who turns 33 in March, and a host of other slow, ageing stars such as Aaron Cresswell, Vladimir Coufal, Angelo Ogbonna, Lukasz Fabianski and exit-bound Craig Dawson.

The Hammers have little variety in the squad and signings such as Emerson have been completely pointless, adding nothing to the team.

Moyes also doesn’t like to operate with more than one or two strikers in his squad. West Ham have scored a pathetic 15 goals in 19 games this season, showing what a ridiculous approach that is.

Now amid links to several strikers in the January window, which saw Moyes snubbed by Youssef En-Nesyri, one Magpies player in particular has been left baffled by West Ham’s approach.

Newcastle star Callum Wilson has trolled West Ham over their transfer recruitment and it shows that Moyes is out of touch.

Speaking on the The Footballer’s Football Podcast, Wilson told West Ham forward Antonio that Moyes’ recruitment confuses him. And the Newcastle goalscorer even joked he could do a better job heading up West Ham’s transfer dealings.

“The one thing for me, whenever I see West Ham sign a striker or linked with a striker, it’s always the similar profile,” Wilson said on The Footballer’s Football Podcast.

“In terms of what type of striker you are trying to buy, it’s always tall and gangly centre-forward. I think sometimes you are looking at the wrong option because the Premier League is difficult sometimes, especially for a centre-forward, it’s not an easy position.

“I just think if you have someone who is this same profile as this En-Nesyri, and (Gianluca) Scamacca, I would probably say are similar looking players, in terms of stature and the way that they play, then you go for a totally different option if you are going to have three.

“You don’t go for three of the same because what’s the point? You are trying to have different options. Different games require different strikers, ones that are going to drop in short and ones that are going to run in-behind. You need to keep it mixed up.

“I am not part of your recruitment, maybe I need to come down and start filling up your club with good players!”

The worst thing about this is that Wilson is spot on.

It shows how archaic Moyes is in his approach and the Scot should be embarrassed hearing a current Premier League and England star speaking about his recruitment in such a way.
