West Ham United co-owner David Gold appears to have put his foot in it once again.

Dark clouds gathered over the London Stadium on Saturday as the Hammers lurched deeper into the relegation mire.

West Ham were 2-0 and 3-1 up in crucial six-pointer against Brighton at the London Stadium.

But David Moyes’s side twice threw away the commanding leads and were left clinging on for a 3-3 draw by the end.

Hammers drop into relegation zone

The result leaves West Ham in the relegation zone. And with back-to-back away games against Manchester City and Liverpool, they are likely to stay there for some time yet.

It comes against the backdrop of angry fan protests against the board with another planned for the next home game against Southampton.

And as if things could not get any worse co-owner David Gold has angered supporters by liking a Twitter post which called West Ham fans ‘morons’.

After a relatively positive transfer deadline day, where the Hammers signed Hull star Jarrod Bowen, one West Ham fan took to Twitter to defend the owners and criticised his fellow supporters.

Gold likes tweet calling West Ham fans ‘morons’

“Well done to the three Davids,” a West Ham fan responded to a post from David Gold announcing the signings of Bowen and Tomas Soucek.

“Funny how the moron contingent have gone quiet tonight as yet again in a highly competitive market the board have spent big. Any potential signing looking at the online poison from a foul minority would keep away. Thankfully Bowen Soucek stronger.”

But in another PR own goal for the club, Gold appeared to endorse the sentiments of the tweet by liking it for his 200,000 followers to see.

It comes just weeks after Gold angered supporters with comments during an interview on talkSPORT.

And that did not go down well with West Ham fans, who responded by lambasting Gold.

‘Out of touch’ Co-owner slammed after massive PR own goal

West Ham United Independent Supporters Association picked up on the fact Gold had liked the controversial message.

“David Gold’s decision to like the following tweet shows an appalling lack of judgement and understanding for the way West Ham fans feel,” WHUISA responded.

“Calling us morons is never OK.”

And here are a selection of other responses from some Hammers fans.

‘Holds us all in contempt’
