The Hammers squad are currently at St Andrews in Scotland for a pre-season training camp as David Moyes attempts to get his players in shape for what will undoubtedly be another challenging Premier League campaign ahead.
West Ham have a really tough looking start to the 2020/21 campaign.
They welcome Newcastle to the London Stadium on the opening day, but then after that, the fun really starts.
The Hammers are set to play Arsenal, Wolves, Leicester City, Tottenham, Manchester City and Liverpool in their next six games after the opening day clash with the Magpies.
So it will be absolutely vital for the east Londoners to get off to a good start against the Toon.
As long as David Moyes is backed in the transfer market, West Ham certainly have the makings of a very good squad of players.
And Noble named six of them currently at the London Stadium who really excite him, when speaking exclusively to the club’s official website yesterday:
“I love the fact that Dec’s still a young player, Ben Johnson, Grady Diangana’s back… if we can keep the young players – players like Jarrod and Tomas, Pablo Fornals – coming through to push the older players in the team, that’s what we need.”
Noble is right, there are many reasons for West Ham fans to get excited.
But that must not overshadow the need for Moyes to bring in at least two top class defenders this summer.
In an ideal world, we would sign a new left-back, right-back, centre-back and centre-forward. That probably won’t happen, however, what with the current financial problems at the club.
So the additions of a couple of defenders may have to suffice. And if Moyes manages to do that, we could be in for a comfortable, stress-free campaign for a change.
Keeping the likes of Rice and Diangana at the club will obviously be vitally important as well. If the Hammers end up doing that, we could have a very bright future indeed.
