Mark Noble believes West Ham can hurt Manchester City with set-pieces, the club’s official website reports.
West Ham captain Noble knows that his side face a tough challenge as they take on second-place Man City, who are eager to catch Liverpool.
The reigning champions will be buoyed by last weekend’s Carabao Cup win and will be hoping to brush West Ham aside.
But the Hammers recently earned a draw against Liverpool – thanks to a set-piece – and Noble believes this can work to the team’s advantage against Man City.
Noble has revealed that West Ham have worked on set-pieces and will hope to use them to good effect against Pep Guardiola’s side.
Robert Snodgrass: the danger man
West Ham enjoyed a lot of success from set-pieces against Fulham as two corners turned the game on its head.
The Irons trailed 1-0 when Sergio Rico failed to deal with Robert Snodgrass’ corner and Javier Hernandez bundled it in with his hand.
Shortly after, West Ham took the lead as Issa Diop headed in from another Snodgrass corner. Noble believes West Ham and Snodgrass can threaten Man City with set-pieces, too.
The West Ham skipper told the club’s official website: “Not so much for this game in particular, but we do [work on set plays] for every game because we know Snoddy (Robert Snodgrass) has got a fantastic delivery and, in all honesty, we haven’t scored as many [set piece goals] as we should because we haven’t attacked the ball well enough.
“On Friday [at home to Fulham], Issa [Diop] has got his first Premier League goal. I thought he attacked the ball great and Mikey [Antonio] could have scored just after that.
“It looked like the set plays were causing them a lot of problems. We had five or six corners in the first half alone and we got two great goals.”
