Manuel Pellegrini hints Andriy Yarmolenko is ready to shine for West Ham, explains lack of action

Of all West Ham United’s nine summer signings Andriy Yarmolenko was one they were most excited about.

A big move to Borussia Dortmund did not work out for the Ukraine star last season.

But West Ham and Yarmolenko seem a match made in heaven.

Hammers fans have always appreciated players with skill and flair.

And he has that in abundance.

The former Kiev man looked excellent in pre-season but has barely featured so far as Manuel Pellegrini’s new era got off to the worst possible start with three defeats from the opening three games.

Yarmolenko has looked good in late cameos in those games.

‘He will be a very good player for us’

So West Ham fans have been left scratching their heads as to why he is not starting.

After the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal last time out, Pellegrini has shed some light on why Yarmolenko has not featured much so far and backs him to be a star for the East Londoners (club’s official site).

“I couldn’t find the starting XI immediately because there were players who arrived late and we had to put them into shape to try to play 90 minutes in the Premier League and that’s not easy,” Pellegrini told

“We also need to integrate them into the team.

“For example, Andriy Yarmolenko will be a very good player for us in the future.”

Hammers fans are hoping Yarmolenko starts to prove him right and fast.

Although West Ham created plenty of chances against the Gunners they lacked that killer final touch.

Cup gives Yarmolenko chance for fitness

With Yarmolenko’s record for assists and goals it bodes well that he is ready to start making an impact from the start.

Pellegrini’s selection for the Carabao Cup game against AFC Wimbledon will be a big indication whether that is the case.

With a hugely important home game against Wolves coming up at the weekend many of the club’s key first team players may be rested.

But the cup could provide the perfect opportunity to get Yarmolenko up to speed.
