Ryan Fredericks arguably produced his finest performance in a West Ham shirt in the 3-0 win over Southampton yesterday.

The Hammers brushed Southampton aside at the London Stadium. Marko Arnautovic scored twice and Fredericks capped a fine performance by making it three.

Fredericks has been in and out of the team since his free transfer from Fulham last summer. Injury has played some part in that but now he is back and fully firing.

The 26-year-old has overtaken veteran Pablo Zabaleta in the pecking order and made the right-back spot his own. This was confirmed against Southampton as Fredericks produced a masterclass at both ends.

With some important defensive interventions and constant attacking threat, it was a complete performance. And Fredericks took his goal well.

The ex-Spurs defender combined with Jack Wilshere, playing a one-two before lashing the ball into the bottom corner. The joy on his face was clear to see.

West Ham have been linked with some right-backs ahead of the summer. Nathaniel Clyne of Liverpool is a £15m target, according to Goal. But Fredericks could save the club millions if he continues like this.

Here are some tweets from Hammers fans discussing Fredericks’ performance.
