West Ham boss David Moyes looks set to miss out on another reported transfer target, with CDF reporting that Tottenham and Newcastle are ready to battle it out for Monaco centre-back Guillermo Maripan.
In other news…CL winning alleged West Ham target has contract terminated respected journalist claims
Spanish publication AS claimed back in May that Hammers boss Moyes wants to bring the 26-year-old centre-back to the London Stadium this summer.
At the time, Monaco wanted around £27 million for the 6ft 4in Chilean (AS), but they have now allegedly lowered their demands closer to £17.9m (CDF).
West Ham have actually been linked with a move for Maripan since last summer (The Daily Mail).
It now seems as though Moyes is set to miss out on another target, however, with CDF claiming that Tottenham and Newcastle are in a straight fight for the Monaco ace.
And missing out on the Chile international will be a massive blow for West Ham, considering their desperate need for quality defensive reinforcements this summer.
Moyes’s loss could end up being either Jose Mourinho or Steve Bruce’s gain.
Stats
The 26-year-old joined Monaco from Alaves last summer for around €18 million (£16 million), according to Goal.
In 20 Ligue 1 outings last term, Maripan averaged 2.1 tackles, 1.3 interceptions, 3.3 clearances and 0.7 blocks. He also won an average of two aerial duals per game during those appearances (Who Scored).
AS claimed that the Chilean was one of the best players in Ligue 1 last season. So his quality is obvious.
He is exactly the kind of signing West Ham should be making this summer.
But unfortunately for us, it seems as though once again we will be usurped by one of our Premier League rivals for one of Moyes’s reported key targets.
