Joe Cole spoke exclusively to 90 Min, and suggested that David Moyes may have hinted that he plans to copy RB Leipzig’s model at West Ham.

The Scot took charge of the Hammers in December 2019. That was after failed stints as manager at Real Sociedad in Spain and Sunderland.

Moyes was far from the ambitious, young and innovative thinking manager that West Ham fans longed for when Manuel Pellegrini was sacked.

But the accusation that he is a footballing dinosaur is somewhat unfair.

Moyes studied RB Leipzig and the way that the Bundesliga outfit worked from top to bottom when he was out of work.

Leipzig are streets ahead of the east London club at the moment.

Could the Hammers be Leipzig Mark II?

And Joe Cole told 90 Min how he thinks the Scot has hinted on numerous occasions that he wants to bring the German side’s blueprint for success and ideology to West Ham:

“I think with David, the interesting thing if you listen to his press conferences and talk to him, is when he mentions the time he spent at RB Leipzig in between jobs and he talks about the young players they’ve got there and the system they’ve put in place. Because if you do your due diligence on that model of play, it is perfect for West Ham. High speed, youth, exciting players, buying them at a young age. Getting them in, building a club – and now RB Leipzig are playing Champions League football.”

Cole is right. Leipzig’s philosophy of signing young, up-and-coming stars has served them very well over the past few years.

And West Ham fans would love to see some of the German side’s high-octane and energetic football on display at the London Stadium.

Whether Moyes is given enough time to implement those ideas, however, remains to be seen.
