When speaking to BT Sport yesterday (October 24th, 11:52 am), Joe Cole suggested that he wasn’t convinced about Pablo Fornals when West Ham brought the Spaniard to England in the summer of 2019.

The 24-year-old joined the Hammers from Villarreal 16 months ago for around £25 million (The Telegraph).

Fornals made a slow start to life at the London Stadium. But many West Ham fans instantly noticed just how hard the Spaniard works. And he is a real fan favourite in east London.

Some Hammers fans are still not convinced by Fornals, however.

It is clear to see that the 24-year-old is more suited to playing centrally. But he is doing a very good job for the team out on the left at the moment.

The former Villarreal man has undeniable quality, and he has proven time and time again that he has truly exceptional technique.

And Joe Cole told BT Sport how his opinion of Fornals has changed recently:

“Fornals, he came here and I was questioning what does he do, what is he as a player? But he covers ground and distance. When you watch him off the ball he is clever and he can pick a pass.”

As mentioned earlier, Fornals would undoubtedly be more effective if David Moyes deployed him centrally.

Perhaps the Scot will have to think about doing that soon, with Said Benrahma waiting in the wings.

The Spaniard still has a lot to offer West Ham. And the Hammers faithful will hopefully soon see the best of Fornals.

Until then, however, he will undoubtedly keep working hard and plugging away on the left side of West Ham’s front three.
