West Ham hope to host one pre-season friendly against a European club at The London Stadium, according to reliable club insider EXWHUEmployee.

Speaking on The West Ham Way podcast on Wednesday 10th April, EXWHUEmployee told listeners that Lazio and Paris Saint-Germain were possibilities.

As part of the club’s preparations for the 2019/20 season, the Hammers will travel to China in July. They will take part in the Premier League Asia Trophy with Manchester City, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers confirmed as the opponents.

But West Ham will still try to organise a home friendly before next season. This will depend on the availability of The London Stadium due to athletics events taking place this summer.

Lazio or PSG?

West Ham appear to be negotiating with Lazio and PSG as they weigh up potential opponents in this pre-season friendly game.

If this was down to fans, the majority of West Ham supporters would almost certainly vote for a fixture against Lazio.

The Italian club’s fans have a strong rapport with West Ham fans with joint icon Paolo Di Canio playing a major role in this.

In Italy and England, Lazio and West Ham are respectively renowned for their impressive fan base, even if results are often disappointing.

The prospect of Lazio making the trip to England would definitely appeal to plenty of West Ham fans and it would be a good PR move by the club.
