West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini appears to be pondering a change in goal.

According to reliable Hammers insider EXWHUEmployee (on ‘The West Ham Way’ podcast on Phoenix FM), Joseph Anang and David Martin have been involved in first-team training this week. It appears Pellegrini is running the rule over the pair.

Anang and Martin present Pellegrini with two alternatives to calamitous goalkeeper Roberto. Since Lukasz Fabianski’s injury, West Ham have not won a game and Roberto has made countless mistakes.

The Spaniard’s confidence is non-existent and he is spreading panic to his team-mates. The calls for Roberto to be dropped are getting louder and there could be a new goalkeeper between the sticks against Chelsea this weekend.

Anang or Martin?

If Pellegrini drops Roberto, he needs to consider who to replace him. Martin has been on the bench so he would be the natural next choice until Fabianski is back.

West Ham signed Martin from Millwall in the summer. At the age of 33, he has not yet played a Premier League match. But Roberto’s hapless performances and Fabianski’s injury gives Martin a chance.

Alternatively, Anang could step up from the U23 team. The 19-year-old didn’t play in Wednesday evening’s U23 match. Then, he was pictured training with the first-team.

EXWHUEmployee has confirmed that both players have played central roles in the training sessions. This suggests a change is imminent.
