Pellegrini wants second striker

But West Ham are also keen to add a second striker after allowing Marko Arnautovic, Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll to leave.

The Hammers have been linked with a host of forwards.

Moussa Marega, Mario Balotelli and Gonzalo Higuain are just some of the names on Pellegrini’s list.

Another was Neal Maupay of Championship side Brentford.

West Ham have shown a keen interest in Maupay of late according to the likes of The Daily Star.

Hammers linked with Maupay

The former France Under 21 striker was highly-rated as a youngster but there were question marks over his temperament.

The 22-year-old looks to have finally grown up at Brentford, though, scoring 28 goals and laying on nine assists in 49 games last term.

West Ham had their fingers burned by the bizarre £8m purchase of little known Championship striker Jordan Hugill last year.

But Maupay is more mobile, quick and has pedigree having been at Nice and Saint-Etienne.

However reliable West Ham insider ExWHUemployee has all but ruled out a move for Maupay.

Speaking on Twitter ExWHUemployee confirmed he was on West Ham’s list.

Insider explains West Ham reservations

However a discrepancy in the player’s valuation looks to have put paid to any potential move across London.

“I think we feel he is too expensive to be interested in,” ExWHUemployee said on Twitter when asked about the accuracy of recent reports of West Ham being in for the forward.

According to The Evening Standard Brentford are under no financial pressure to sell the striker.

They want Maupay to stay in West London and are demanding a fee of around £20million.

Sheffield United, Brighton and Aston Villa are also said to be interested.
