West Ham striker Albian Ajeti helped Switzerland to an important win on Friday night.
Switzerland edged past Georgia thanks to Cedric Itten’s debut goal. With Group D looking extremely tight in the Euro qualifiers, this was a vital three points.
With just one game remaining, Switzerland move into second place on 14 points. Denmark are on 15 and the Republic of Ireland are on 12 so qualification is in Switzerland’s hands.
Albian Ajeti started and played 71 minutes before being replaced by eventual goalscorer Itten. The 22-year-old is yet to impress at West Ham but he got his chance starting up front for the Swiss national side.

After the game, Ajeti posted a celebratory picture on Instagram. Arsenal outcast Granit Xhaka is also in the picture with the caption: “A tough piece of work but finally a well deserved win!”
Xhaka has been transfer-listed by Arsenal and there will inevitably be some links with West Ham. Hammers fans are already putting the idea out there after seeing Xhaka and Ajeti together.
Here are some tweets about Ajeti’s post.
