The 28-year-old was deployed in the right wing-back position. He did most of his good work in the final third, however.

That comes after his fine display away at Aston Villa last week. He played in the right wing position.

Fredericks flourished in his new found role.

David Moyes used Fredericks in the more advanced role to provide cover for Vladimir Coufal and to help nullify the threat of Jack Grealish.

So the question must be asked.

Has Ryan Fredericks accidentally found his best position?

The 28-year-old, who earns £50k-a-week (Claret and Hugh), joined West Ham on a free transfer in the summer of 2018 on the back of a fine season in the Championship with Fulham.

Fredericks arrived at the London Stadium with the reputation as one of the finest emerging right full-backs in England.

He has never really established himself with the Hammers, however. The former Fulham ace has constantly proven that he isn’t good enough in the Premier League defensively. His positioning is poor and he is far from a strong tackler.

One thing Fredericks does have, however, is blistering pace. And he has utilised that to great effect over the past week when playing further forward.

The 28-year-old has certainly been more useful for West Ham when deployed in a more attacking role.

The Hammers fans have been given a glimpse recently of what Fredericks is capable of. He is a decent dribbler and his crosses into the box have actually been spot on.

That combined with his incredible pace should enable him to be a real threat for West Ham between now and the end of the season.

It’s just strange that it has taken so long for Fredericks to be given the chance to play in a position where he is clearly more comfortable.
