West Ham midfielder Joe Powell has signed a new contract, the club’s official website has confirmed. Powell has penned a one-year extension at West Ham.
He follows a number of other young players in committing to a new deal at West Ham. Nathan Holland, Nathan Trott, Ben Johnson, Declan Rice and Grady Diangana all signed deals this season.
Powell has played one first-team game for West Ham. After impressing with goals and assists in the U23 team, he was named on the bench in the EFL Cup.
In the second half, Manuel Pellegrini gave the left-footed midfielder his debut. Powell came off the bench and provided two assists in the 8-0 win over Macclesfield Town.
The 20-year-old then headed to Northampton Town on loan in January. He played 10 times in League Two for the Cobblers, scoring twice and providing one assist.
He heads back to East London ahead of next season and has signed a one-year extension. This means he will need to impress in the 2019/20 season to earn a longer deal.
Here are some things West Ham fans said about Powell’s new contract.

Not gonna lie Dave, was hoping it would be for longer. He’s a very decent prospect.

Why only a 1 year deal if it’s a reward? You certainly haven’t rewarded him by showing you have confidence in him.
