Just hours after losing 4-2 to League One’s bottom club AFC Wimbledon in the FA Cup, West Ham announced that Marko Arnautovic was staying.

The club’s official website confirmed that Arnautovic had signed a new contract at West Ham. And shortly afterwards, a video was posted on the official Twitter account.

Arnautovic decided to explain his actions following a wild fortnight of speculation linking him with a move to China (various, including The Times).

During this time, Manuel Pellegrini dropped him from the squad to face Bournemouth.

In the video, the Austrian said: “Hi West Ham fans. Finally you hear me talking. I’m back, I’m happy to be back.”

The 29-year-old also claimed he loved playing at The London Stadium and could not wait to get back on the pitch again.

Arnautovic signed off the video by saying: “So, listen [to] what this club or myself are saying, don’t listen to the other people who are not in the club. All the best, see you soon.”

This video message and contract extension divided opinion among West Ham fans.

Some are unconvinced by his update and believe he will be off next summer. But others are ready to back him if he returns against Wolves.

Below are some tweets from West Ham fans discussing Arnautovic’s new contract and video message.
