Danny Gabbidon has suggested that West Ham’s signing of Albian Ajeti has gone under the radar, when speaking to Sky Sports on Tuesday night.

The Hammers brought the 22-year-old to the London Stadium from Basel for around £8 million earlier this month, according to BBC Sport.

It was a busy summer for West Ham. They also splashed out in excess of £70 million on Sebastien Haller, Pablo Fornals and Goncalo Cardoso.

And many Hammers fans think that they could gatecrash the top seven this season.

Ajeti could be a vital player for West Ham.

Haller will undoubtedly start the majority of games this season. The Swiss hitman will provide important cover and competition for the Frenchman, however.

He made his debut against Newport County on Tuesday night.

And Gabbidon highlighted how Ajeti could make a real difference for the Hammers this season, when speaking during Sky Sports’ coverage of West Ham v Newport (19:35, Tuesday, August 27th).

“Hopefully goals, I think the transfer has gone under the radar with Sebastien Haller coming in for big money, but he certainly looks a different type of striker to Haller. He’s more Javier Hernandez-like, a box type of player, likes to get in behind, can shoot with either foot, very composed when he gets in those positions, so I think he’ll be a very good addition.”

The 22-year-old wasn’t quite at the races on Tuesday night. But he did at least showcase his potential.

And he will have to be ready to step in as and when he is needed for West Ham this season.

And if he produces what he is undoubtedly capable of, £8 million could end up looking like a real snip for the striker.
