ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham’s interest in signing Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland is dead for the moment, suggesting that David Moyes has no need to sign a new goalkeeper as things stand.

Hammers boss David Moyes has plenty of work to do before the transfer window slams shut next month.

He desperately needs to sign a new left back and a new centre-back. The Scot could also do with bringing a right-back and a centre-forward to the London Stadium.

One area that is not talked about enough, however, is our goalkeeping department.

West Ham have plenty of competition in the goalkeeping department. Lukasz Fabianski is the club’s undisputed number one. Darren Randolph is the Pole’s number two, with talented youngsters Joseph Anang and Nathan Trott waiting in the wings.

Potential goalkeeping problem lying in wait?

Fabianski’s form has been suspect since returning from injury, however. And considering the fact that he is now 35, a potential upgrade in the goalkeeping department wouldn’t be the strangest move from David Moyes this summer.

The Athletic claimed back in August that the Hammers could test the waters and make an offer for Stoke keeper Jack Butland this summer.

And according to a report from Sky Sports, the Potters are now prepared to sell the 27-year-old for just £8 million.

Butland, who earns £60,000 per week according to the Daily Mail, was one of the most exciting young goalkeepers to come through the ranks in England four or five years ago. But his form has undoubtedly dipped over the past few years.

Stats

The 27-year-old Stoke goalkeeper let in 56 goals in 35 Championship games this season, keeping just nine clean sheets in the process (Transfermarkt).

Those are poor numbers by anyone’s standards.

ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham have dropped their interest in the Stoke man for now anyway:

And many Hammers fans will probably be pleased with that news.
