ExWHUemployee has claimed that he has been told David Moyes no longer rates Nottingham Forest right-back Matty Cash.

The Hammers really could do with signing a new right-back this summer.

Ryan Fredericks has been extremely poor for West Ham since moving to the London Stadium on a free transfer in the summer of 2018.

We do have Ben Johnson of course. But in an ideal world, the 20-year-old should have more quality competition.

And Nottingham Forest ace Matty Cash would have been the perfect summer signing for the Hammers.

According to a report from the Mirror (August 11th, page 49), West Ham were prepared to pay £10 million for the 23-year-old.

But ExWHUemployee has now claimed that Moyes no longer rates Cash…

We have to read between the lines here, however.

Surely Moyes didn’t rate Cash and then all of a sudden decide that he is no longer a fan.

We’re not disputing what Ex is saying. That is undoubtedly what he has been told. The translation for that though is Moyes wanted to sign Cash. He went to the owners and asked for their backing. They told him that there is no money to spend. End of story.

To save face, insiders at West Ham have clearly leaked the line that Moyes no longer fancies Cash. But that is obviously not true.

Perhaps that is just us being cynical. But most West Ham fans would agree that that was probably how it went down.

It has been an extremely painful transfer window so far. Let’s just hope Moyes manages to make some big sales soon so he can start making some signings that he so desperately needs.
