ExWHUemployee claims West Ham tried to sign 29-year-old Arsenal sold for £11m in 2017

ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham attempted to sign former Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Paulista from Valencia.

Hammers boss David Moyes is clearly desperate to add an established centre-back to his ranks before the transfer window slams shut.

The Scot has solved our right-back problem by signing Vladimir Coufal. But if the West Ham boss doesn’t sign a top class centre-back, we could be in real trouble this season.

And ExWHUemployee has claimed that the Hammers are casting their net far and wide. The West Ham insider name-checked one time Arsenal centre-back Gabriel Paulista as someone Moyes has already tried to sign, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Thursday October 1st):

“Lots of offers in at the moment. Gabriel who used to play for Arsenal, plays for Valencia now, that one has been rejected.”

The 29-year-old left Arsenal for Valencia in the summer of 2017 for around £11 million (Eurosport).

The Brazilian made 33 La Liga appearances last season for Los Che. In those outings, he averaged 0.7 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 4.5 clearances and 0.9 blocks per game. He also won 2.5 aerial duals on average per match (Who Scored).

Gabriel is an old fashioned, tenacious tackling defender. He would have thrived at West Ham. So it is a shame that we have missed out on signing the former Gunner.
