According to ExWHUemployee, West Ham are interested in signing Cagliari midfielder Nahitan Nandez this month, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast last night (Tuesday, January 21st).

The Hammers are really lacking in the middle of the park. David Moyes has little to choose from in reserve aside from Declan Rice and Mark Noble.

And signing a mobile, industrious central midfielder must be one of the Scot’s very top priorities this month.

ExWHUemployee claimed last night that 31-capped Uruguay international Nandez could be an option for West Ham, when speaking on the West Ham Way podcast:

“There’s a guy called Nahitan Nandez who plays for Cagliari, he’s 24, he’s a Uruguayan midfielder. I hear he’s a bit of an engine who gets up and down. He’s an option.”

Is he the kind of player the Hammers need?

The 24-year-old joined Cagliari from Boca Juniors in the summer of 2019, and he has impressed in Serie A. He is an extremely hard worker, is tenacious in the tackle and has bundles of energy – just the kind of player West Ham need.

Nandez is vastly experienced, despite being just 24, having already made 166 senior club appearances and with 31 international caps for Uruguay to his name.

At just 5ft 7in tall, however, the Cagliari ace isn’t exactly the kind of physical presence that the Hammers are after. Size isn’t everything though. Just look at N’Golo Kante. But it certainly helps to have some kind of physical stature, if you are going to be a success in the Premier League.

If West Ham can pick Nandez up for a decent fee, however, he might just be worth a punt for the east London outfit.
