The 19-year-old is set to leave the Hammers on a free transfer at the end of this month.
And David Moyes told the Standard earlier this week how the teenager could be making a big mistake:
“We are really surprised and disappointed that Jeremy is not going to stay at West Ham. We like him a lot, we’ve given him his debut. I feel he is making a mistake choosing not to stay with us. We’ve trusted him in big games and everyone likes him at the club.”
Ngakia has really impressed for West Ham since bursting onto the scene in January.
The young right-back has made four Premier League appearances for the east London outfit. And he hasn’t looked out of place once.
19-year-old set to leave on a free
But Ngakia’s contract is due to expire at the end of this month after he failed to agree terms on a new deal. He looks all set to leave the London Stadium on a free transfer in just three weeks time.
And Hammers insider ExWHUemployee has claimed that Tottenham and Crystal Palace are interested in signing the talented young starlet:
“I do believe that Ngakia may have been informed of other clubs’ interest in him. He probably hasn’t been promised games at West Ham. I have heard that Crystal Palace and Spurs are amongst a number of clubs who have shown an interest in him.”
Many West Ham fans are split on the Ngakia situation. Some believe the club should pay up and give him the contract he wants. Others, meanwhile, think paying the 19-year-old north of £20k-a-week would set a dangerous precedent of giving young stars too much too soon and thus risk diminishing their hunger.
Only time will tell whether letting Ngakia leave is the correct decision or not.
But either way, losing him to Tottenham or Crystal Palace for nothing would be a big blow for West Ham.
