Hammers boss David Moyes was desperately scrambling to bring an established centre-back through the door at the London Stadium.
But unfortunately, we ended up with nothing.
The window is still open for us to sign players from the Championship until October 16th.
We have been linked with Watford’s Craig Dawson (Daily Mail), Swansea City’s Joe Rodon (Guardian journalist Jacob Steinberg) and Nottingham Forest’s Joe Worrall (Football Insider).
But only time will tell whether we manage to actually get anyone through the door between now and October 16th.
Things could have been so different had we managed to sign someone like Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger.
But ExWHUemployee has claimed that the 27-year-old Blues ace, who earns £100k-a-week (Spotrac), turned us down…
The Mirror had claimed earlier on in the transfer window that West Ham were confident of winning the race for Rudiger. So missing out on him will obviously be a blow.
Stats
Chelsea signed the 27-year-old from Roma in the summer of 2017 for around £29 million (BBC). He has gone on to make 80 Premier League appearances for Chelsea. In those outings, the Germany international has made 93 tackles, 15 blocks, 72 interceptions, 252 clearances and 522 ball recoveries (premierleague.com).
Rudiger is a very solid all-round defender. He has plenty of pace and is a tenacious tackler.
But unfortunately for us, he will not be plying his trade at the London Stadium this season.
