Declan Rice shared something interesting David Moyes told the West Ham United players in December 2019, when speaking on The 2 Robbies podcast.

The Hammers were in real trouble when Moyes took over at the London Stadium for the second time in December 2019.

West Ham barely avoided relegation last season. There were gradual signs with every week that passed that the Hammers players were improving little by little as a unit.

Now, not even a year on from our fight against relegation, we are incredibly flying high in fifth spot in the Premier League table, just two points adrift of fourth placed Chelsea.

Moyes deserves huge credit for the job that he has done at the London Stadium.

And Rice told The 2 Robbies podcast how the Scot made a pledge to the Hammers players 15 months ago:

“He has been amazing. He has been incredible for us. He actually said in one of his first meetings that once he got us out of relegation we would go on and if we had a full season with him we are really going to push on.”

Moyes’s pledge to the players has come to fruition.

West Ham have a real chance of finishing inside the top six this season. Nobody in their right mind would have predicted that at the start of the campaign, that’s for sure!

Let’s hope we hold out and earn European qualification.

If we do just that, David Moyes will surely deserve the Premier League Manager of the Year award!
