Declan Rice issues apology to West Ham fans after video review of horror show

West Ham United star Declan Rice has issued a mature apology to fans ahead of Saturday’s game against Sheffield United.

Rice has found himself under scrutiny of late after a poor performance for England in defeat to the Czech Republic.

A handball against Crystal Palace helped the Eagles come from behind to beat West Ham, although Rice was superb in that game besides.

The young midfield enforcer was then targeted by Everton boss Marco Silva as part of his tactics to beat the Hammers last time out.

Rice under the microscope

Rice was certainly no worse than any of his teammates at Goodison Park.

But he has showed maturity beyond his years by issuing an apology to fans ahead of the crunch clash against the Blades.

Apology after video horror

Manuel Pellegrini made his players watch the game back to see just how poor they performed.

It has been a rude awakening for the squad if Rice’s comments on the club’s official website are anything to go by.

“We know we need to perform better than we did at the weekend,” Rice told whufc.com.

“You have to be honest and it was shocking, we let the fans down, we let ourselves down.

‘That’s in the past now’

“We reviewed the game and watching it back was tough because we all know we’re not those players.

“We could have played so much better.

“That’s in the past now, we’ll look forward to Saturday because there’s no better way to get over that than another game at home when we’ll try to get the three points.”
