Declan Rice has jumped to the defence of Wilfried Zaha in the spitting saga, The Mirror reports.
After Crystal Palace’s 2-1 win over West Ham, videos of an incident involving Zaha and Rice circulated on Twitter. Rice eases Zaha off the ball as it goes out of play. Frustrated, Zaha spits while facing in the direction of Rice.
Whether Zaha spat at Rice or spat on the floor while looking at Rice is open to interpretation. But Zaha posted a social media video, telling West Ham fans to get over the result and not to spread “lies”.
Declan Rice on Wilfried Zaha
Rice has now broken his silence on the incident. With many West Ham fans claiming Zaha spat at Rice, the West Ham player disagrees. Rice thinks that Zaha spat on the floor and that this saga has been blown out of proportion.
The England midfielder said (via The Mirror): “Some fans said Wilfried spat at me but I didn’t see anything. I have seen clips of it and it looks like he just he just spat on the floor. So I agree with Zaha that nothing happened. He really didn’t do anything.”
West Ham will still be hurting from that Palace defeat but can make amends against Everton next week. Rice, who gave away a penalty against the Eagles and was criticised for his performance for England on Friday night, will be hoping to turn things around next weekend.
