The 22-year-old actually began the game slowly and the first-half seemed to pass him by.

It seemed as though he just wasn’t fully fit after a busy summer with England and only 63 minutes of action for the Hammers during pre-season.

As soon as the second-half began yesterday, however, Rice was back to his very best. What a player, what a performance, what a man!

The 22-year-old is so important to this West Ham team.

If we are to enjoy a successful campaign again this season, keeping Dec fit will be vital.

David Moyes raves about West Ham ace’s display against Newcastle

The Scot spoke to reporters after yesterday’s win over Newcastle and praised Rice after his all-action performance against the Toon, as quoted by Football.London:

“Declan was excellent. I thought we played very well in the first half, I thought they were more just a couple of defensive blips and we gave Newcastle a leg up with the second goal. We had as many opportunities as they had. The second half was more of the same, we knew we were going to have to play to get back in the game and win the game and we went on and did that.”

Rice played a huge role in West Ham’s victory yesterday.

His all-action display helped drag Moyes’s side back into the game, having been 2-1 down at half-time.

Hopefully Moyes brings some top-class players in before the transfer window closes. Because exciting signings may well convince Dec to stay with us for the long-term.
