Former West Ham United boss David Moyes has suggested Manuel Pellegrini is getting it all wrong over Marko Arnautovic.
Moyes was brought in from the managerial wilderness to save the Hammers from relegation last season.
The Scot did a fine job in extremely difficult circumstances on and off the pitch.
With the supporters revolting against the club’s owners Moyes managed to take West Ham from second bottom in November to safety with games to spare.
Moyes and the Arnautovic transformation
Key to his success was his transformation of Marko Arnautovic.
Until Moyes’ arrival Arnautovic had been indifferent at best.
But played as the main striker Moyes turned him into one of the form players in the Premier League.
That, and saving West Ham, was not enough to keep Moyes in the job.
West Ham comfortable but underwhelming under Pellegrini
Life has been more comfortable, if a little underwhelming, for the East Londoners under Pellegrini.
That was not helped by the Arnautovic China saga of course.
And the striker has never really recovered.
The fans in the main have remained behind the sulky star as Pellegrini has struggled to get a tune out of the Austrian.
There were signs he is rediscovering his hunger and form in the second half performance during West Ham’s 1-0 win at Spurs last time out.
Moyes suggests Pellegrini is handling Arnautovic all wrong
Now Moyes has suggested Pellegrini has been handling Arnautovic all wrong in an interview with talkSPORT.
“Arnautovic is really fast, he’s powerful,” Moyes told talkSPORT.
“He’s a top player and I think he could play for any of the top teams because of what he’s got.
“He’s a good type, he just needs some tough love. At times he’s a strange character but a good boy.”
There have been suggestions recently that Pellegrini may be something of a soft touch, read full story.
Talk of two days off after Saturday games and an ‘easy oasy’ approach to training.
Moyes was very much a task master. Perhaps Pellegrini should take a leaf out of Moyes’ book with certain players like Arnautovic.
After all a fit, firing and focused Arnautovic could end up saving the club a lot of money in the transfer market.
