David Moyes shared with reporters what he told the West Ham players at half-time against Tottenham yesterday, as quoted by Football.London.

The Hammers produced the most unbelievable come-back against Spurs yesterday.

Jose Mourinho’s side were 3-0 up inside the first 15 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

And we looked deflated, bereft of ideas and beaten. Little did we know what the boys had in store for us in the second-half, however.

West Ham were a completely different team after the break. We were first to every loose ball and the Hammers players were on top. All we needed was a goal to change the game.

It didn’t come until the 81st minute, however, with Fabian Balbuena smartly heading home from an Aaron Cresswell delivery.

At the time it felt like we deserved the goal, but it was surely too little too late.

Then just a few minutes later, Davinson Sanchez turned the ball into his own net and the Tottenham players looked nervous.

None of us would have expected to see what happened deep into stoppage time, however. As the ball broke free on the edge of the Spurs penalty area in the 94th minute, Manuel Lanzini fired home an unstoppable strike. And the game ended 3-3.

So what was said at half-time that led to such a huge turnaround in the game?

David Moyes told Football.London the message he gave to his West Ham players during the half-time break:

“I said at halftime they had played well and to just keep playing. What I didn’t want them to do was lose hope and go 4-0 down, that was the big thing. We wanted to score and let’s see how they reacted when we scored a goal. We played really well in the second half. I felt that it wasn’t the case that we needed to make changes at half time. I think what we said to our players was if we got the first goal, let’s see how it goes. Let’s see how we can play after it. Our players were well aware that if we made it 3-1 then we could get a second. We said if we got one goal, we will see where it goes and that’s all it was at half time.”

Moyes has received plenty of stick from the West Ham fans. But he deserves a lot of credit for the manner in which he clearly motivated his team during the half-time break yesterday.

Next up for the Hammers is a home game against Manchester City on Saturday. And the players will be buzzing for that one.

Let’s just hope that we start better against City than we did against Tottenham yesterday!
