West Ham blew the chance to finish in sixth place in the Premier League table last season on the final day, and David Moyes was understandably fuming as a result.
The Hammers led Brighton 1-0 at half-time but turned in a woeful second-half display, losing the match 3-1 in the end.

We were pipped to sixth place by Manchester United on the final day last season, and ended up finishing in seventh spot.
Moyes’s men subsequently qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League. At the start for the season, that would have been acceptable. But our sharp decline during the second half of the campaign meant that it was anything but.
West Ham boss David Moyes contradicts himself
The Scot addressed the media after our defeat to Brighton back in May.
Moyes laid into his Hammers players, suggesting that their poor displays would not be tolerated, as quoted by The Telegraph:
We knew Manchester United were losing at half-time. Naturally I thought that with so much to play for I’d see toughness, resilience and a team who were hard to beat. I didn’t see that. “I’m not bothered about what mood my players are in, but they can certainly see what mine is and I hope their mood is infected by it. I hope they understand that you don’t play like that. Ever.
Here’s the thing though.
Nine of the players who started against Brighton started against Everton yesterday. So Moyes has contradicted himself badly. He suggested poor performances like the one against Brighton were unacceptable and would not be tolerated.
Yet he is in fact tolerating them…regularly.
It’s the same old players letting Moyes down time and time again.
Sure, the players have to take responsibility for their poor performances but the buck stops with the Scot.
He’s the one who’s selecting the same starting XI’s, week in week out. What’s the definition of insanity again???
David Moyes has to make some big changes to his starting lineup and formation when West Ham play Wolves at home on October 1st.
He’s already contradicted himself by starting those underperforming players on a consistent basis. It’s time for Moyes to gain some control back and let each and every one of them know that they’re far from untouchable.
