David Moyes is facing what promises to be an uncomfortable grilling over his West Ham future at his pre-Leicester presser on Friday.

The pressure is piling on Moyes after West Ham followed up the abject performance and defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend by crashing out of a wide open Carabao Cup to a Blackburn B side.

Dark clouds have started to gather over Moyes’ head of late as West Ham struggle to live up to loftier expectations after two years of rapid progress.

The Scot’s cause is not being helped by the fact West Ham’s decline can be charted back a full 12 months. The Hammers have just 13 wins in their last 41 Premier League matches across this season and last since beating Liverpool last November.

Many supporters are starting to call for Moyes to be sacked.

But others feel the boss should be given time off the back of the marvellous job he has done since returning to east London in 2020 – particularly having brought in so many new players in the summer.

It is not just the results that fans are increasingly concerned about, though. The manager has also been criticised for his negative approach, team selection and tactics with West Ham having scored just 12 goals all season – the joint third worst in the top flight.

Last month The Telegraph claimed Moyes was on thin ice and had five games to save his job, starting with the home game against Wolves.

West Ham’s results improved. But sack talk has been reignited following the dismal performances of late.

Hammers majority stakeholder David Sullivan told Hammers News that the board “100 per cent” back their manager.

That was before the cup exit to Blackburn’s reserves and reports of a mutinous atmosphere building from the likes of The Evening Standard.

It was Moyes’ assistant Mark Warburton who took on press duties after the cup exit.

Warburton lifted the lid on how Moyes was filling and said the players had let the fans and manager down.

Many supporters accused the Scot of hiding by sending Warburton out to face the press, even if it was pre-arranged.

Now Moyes is facing an uncomfortable grilling over his West Ham future at his pre-Leicester presser.

The manager will face the press on Friday and some of the first questions will almost certainly be over his future.

Expect the national press to offer the toughest questions as the media glare turns to Moyes and Everton’s Frank Lampard following the sacking of Ralph Hasenhuttl at Southampton.

Until now – and given the fact West Ham have, for the most part, been on an upward trajectory since his return in 2020 – Moyes’ press conferences have been a cake walk.

This promises to be anything but as the media sharpen their knives.
